Sunnah Way of sleeping - Sleeping on the right Side.
Narrated from al-Baraa’ ibn ‘Aazib, The Messenger Of Allah (Sal'allahu Alaihi Wa'sallam) said: “When you go to bed, do wudoo’ as if for prayer, then lie down on your right side…” (Bukhari, 239).

In Islamic culture, some sleep positions are encouraged while others are discouraged based on the practice (Sunnah) and recommendations of the Prophet Muhammad (Sal'allahu Alaihi Wa'sallam). Thus, many Muslims sleep on their right side, particularly, in the initial part of sleep. Muhammad (Sal'allahu Alaihi Wa'sallam) said, “Whenever you go to bed, perform ablution like that for the prayer, and lie on your right side”(Muslim).
Sleeping on your left side may be bad for your heart. This is especially true for those who are suffering from chronic heart failure or have had a heart attack. Sleeping on your left side will decrease the sympathetic nervous activity in your body. This activity normally controls blood pressure and the heart rate.
When lying on your right side, you may lower your blood pressure and heart rate, which is good for individuals suffering from heart conditions. Lying on the left side decreases your heart’s ability to function properly.

Doctors recommend that patients with a heart condition, especially chronic heart failure try sleeping on their right side if it is comfortable for the patient.

Pregnancy Benefits.

Avoid the left: Whenever possible, avoid sleeping on the left side of your body. You place a lot of strain on the heart, as well as your lungs, stomach and liver. Some of these organs can press into the heart’s region, making it even more difficult to work properly. Something that I forgot to mention on the previous post regarding sleeping on the stomach is that it is maybe extremely detrimental for infants, Modern medical studies have concluded that infants who sleep in the prone position have a seven-fold increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). This has led to “back to sleep” campaigns in Britain (1991) and in the United States (1994).

The Messenger of Allah Sal'allahu Alaihi Was'sallam used to sleep on his right side, putting his right hand on his right cheek, and this is what he recommended others to do.
